Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to find a place to call home. Texas REALTORS® is committed to upholding fair housing for all Texans and to advancing equal opportunity in housing across the state.

Fair Housing
Your Rights Under the Fair Housing Act
The federal Fair Housing Act protects you and everyone else from discrimination in housing-related activities based on seven protected classes:
- Race
- Color
- National origin
- Religion
- Sex
- Familial status
- Disability
These protections apply when you buy, sell, rent, or finance a home.
Fair Housing Education
Texas REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS® offer training to help real estate professionals serve every client fairly—including an implicit-bias workshop from the Perception Institute, the At Home With Diversity® (AHWD) certification, and a Texas fair housing course. The Texas REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity, has promoted workforce housing and homeownership across Texas since 2003.
File a Fair Housing Complaint
If you believe you have been treated unfairly in a housing-related activity, you can file a complaint with HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity. If you believe a REALTOR® has violated the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, you may file an ethics complaint with the association.
